Lorenzo Pirelli

European Court of Auditors

Senior Auditor Team Leader at the European Court of Auditors, Lorenzo Pirelli is currently leading a performance audit on energy efficiency investments in residential buildings.

He joined the ECA in 2010 and carried out several performance audits in the fields of transport, energy, environment, research and rural development (seaports, multi-modality, airports, energy efficiency, energy storage, air quality, business incubators, rural infrastructure, young farmers).

He regularly provides trainings to EU and national officials on performance audit topics for various organisations (European Institute of Public Administration, European Academy for Taxes, Economy and Law, University of Milan, NATO) and published articles in audit journals (European Structural Investment Funds Journal, ECA Journal).

He has a background in EU research and innovation policies thanks to his PhD in Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering at Milan Polytechnic University.

He published his research on EU instruments fostering start-up firms’ growth (venture capital, incubators and research programmes) in the main scientific journals and taught as Assistant Professor the course of Economics and Business Administration.
