In December, EIPA, in collaboration with ESSEC IRENÉ and supported by the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), hosted the first Negotiation Marathon in Maastricht.
This unique training offered participants a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the simulation of a multilateral conflict resolution process, pushing their limits and refining essential diplomatic skills over the course of 48 hrs.
A Bilingual Journey in Multilateral Diplomacy
Over two intense days, participants navigated the complexities of high-stakes negotiations, learning to:
- Build Coalitions: Establishing alliances across diverse and sometimes competing interests
- Manage Pressure: Cultivating resilience in high-stress, time-sensitive scenarios
- Connect Perspectives: Harmonising differing viewpoints to achieve shared goals
The bilingual format, English and French, added another layer of complexity, preparing participants to negotiate effectively in multilingual and multicultural environments.
By the marathon’s end, participants gained valuable insights, practical tools for effective decision-making, and enhanced problem-solving abilities tailored to multilateral settings.
A Successful Collaboration with OIF and ESSEC IRENÉ
The Negotiation Marathon highlights EIPA’s dedication to empowering public officials with actionable training that fosters collaboration, creativity, and adaptability. This initiative, made possible by the contributions of participants, partners, and experts, underscores the importance of building leadership capacity in an increasingly interconnected world.
