On 22 April, 13.0016.00 CET, EIPA, Studio Europa Maastricht and Maastricht University are co-hosting a round-table event ‘European citizens on migration and EU foreign policy: how to assess the citizen recommendations of the Conference on the Future of Europe’. This public event will take place face-to-face at the University College of Maastricht, bringing together experts and the public to discuss the outcomes of the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE) in the field of European migration, defence and foreign policy.

Considering the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, some issues related to defence and foreign policy, enlargement, migration and asylum have proved their relevance in public debates and political agendas across Europe. Members of the Maastricht research community analysed a selection of recommendations proposed by the citizens during the Conference on the Future of Europe and assessed their feasibility and challenges related to their implementation. The round-table experts, including EIPA’s colleagues Sabina Lange and Wolfgang Koeth, will present and discuss their findings.

This is a follow-up event to the fourth European citizens’ public panel organised in the framework of the CoFoE on 11–13 February. Almost 190 EU citizens engaged in a panel debate on migration and the EU’s role in the world, expressing their opinions on highly complex topics such as migration, borders, stability, international partnerships and world peace. At the end of the CoFoE public panel, 46 practical recommendations for policymakers were upvoted by the participants.

Register here and join our event on  Friday, 22 April (13.00–16.00) at Lecture Hall University College Maastricht, Zwingelput 4, Maastricht.
