Joris Hoekstra is Associate Professor of Housing at TU Delft and Guest Professor at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He specialises in international comparative research, housing policy, and social housing, and has published more than 50 academic articles on these topics. His current research focuses on the impact of the housing crisis on the lives of young people and on developing housing solutions that strengthen their position. Joris teaches courses on housing issues and research methods and supervises 5 PhD candidates and several master’s students. He also serves as coordinator of the ENHR working group Social Housing and Globalization and sits on the editorial (advisory) boards of three international academic journals: Housing Studies, Journal of Housing and the Built Environment, and Critical Housing Analysis. In addition, he is Vice-Chair of the College of Experts of SVWN and a member of the Supervisory Board of a Dutch housing association.
