Professional experience

Aniel Pahladsingh is senior lawyer at the Legal and Litigation Department of the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs in the area of EU and international law. He is appointed deputy judge at the district court of Rotterdam, where he settles disputes within administrative law and he serves as a deputy judge at the district court of Amsterdam, where he settles disputes within extradition cases.

Previously, Aniel worked at the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND); at the Dutch Council of State with coordinating tasks in the field of Union law, including questions on the EU Charter and the implementation of Union law into national law; and he was seconded to the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg for a six-month term as an intern in the cabinet of the Dutch judge. He was also seconded as senior lawyer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (the Legal Affairs Division of European Law) in the framework of the Dutch Presidency of the European Union, where he handled asylum cases, migration, and criminal law.

Subsequently, Aniel was appointed deputy member at the Human Rights Committee and involved in disputes converning human rights protection and he was president of The Hague International Research Institute Migration Law (HIRIM).

Aniel studied Dutch law at Leiden University (NL) and received his PhD in 2023 on the topic of Crimmigration and the EU Return Directive at the Radboud University in Nijmegen (NL).

He has written several articles and books in the area of asylum, migration and fundamental rights in the EU.
