About EIPA

The European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) was created in 1981 on the occasion of the first European Council held in Maastricht and is supported by the EU Member States and the European Commission. Our core mission is to provide a mix of deep insights and practical knowledge about EU policies, to all professionals related to EU public affairs, with the key objective of further improving their skills and capabilities for effective management of the policies. In addition to the Maastricht-based headquarters, EIPA has a centre in Luxembourg: the European Centre for Judges and Lawyers (ECJL).

The position

You will be located in Maastricht working closely with another Research Assistant, providing support in the research activities and training in the area of EU judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters and, in particular, you will:

  • Conduct research supporting the preparation of trainings and educational materials.
  • Conduct research, analysis and contribute to the writing of documents and materials in the fields of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters.
  • Assist in building case studies and learning exercises based on case law of the EU Court of Justice.
  • Perform other related tasks to research and analysis of EU legislation in the fields of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Main tasks include:

  • Conduct research supporting the preparation of trainings and educational materials.
  • Conduct research, analysis and contribute to the writing of documents and materials in the fields of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters.
  • Assist in building case studies and learning exercises based on case law of the EU Court of Justice.
  • Perform other related tasks to research and analysis of EU legislation in the fields of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters.

Job requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Master degree in (EU) law with, ideally, a focus on judicial cooperation in the EU (in either civil or criminal, or on the principle of mutual trust at large).
  • At least one year working experience in either research in the fields covered by this vacancy, or an internship working for a relevant EU institution or national office working on the application of judicial cooperation instruments.
  • Excellent familiarity with EU law and relevant legislation in the fields covered by this vacancy.
  • Very good language and communication skills in English (level C2 or mother tongue is an asset).
  • Very good computer skills, and an interest in digital content production.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills.
  • Experience at EU institutions and/or Permanent Representations, EU associations, or a law firm working on judicial cooperation will be considered an asset.
