Internship at EIPA within the EU Governance team and EIPA’s Scientific and Editorial Committee (SEC)
The European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) was created in 1981 on the occasion of the first European Council held in Maastricht and is supported by the EU Member States and the European Commission. Our core mission is to provide a mix of deep insights and practical knowledge about EU policies, to all professionals related to EU public affairs, with the key objective of further improving their skills and capabilities for effective management of the policies. In addition to the Maastricht-based headquarters, EIPA has a centre in Luxembourg: the European Centre for Judges and Lawyers (ECJL).
The position
EU Governance is at the heart of the EU decision-making, ensuring the effective implementation of laws, policies, and regulations across member states through its key institutions by fostering cooperation, upholding democratic principles, and ensuring compliance with EU treaties and objectives.
Our EU Governance team is looking for an intern who is interested in applying the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies and gaining practical experience in this field. The intern will also support the Scientific Editorial Committee (SEC), whose role is to ensure the quality of EIPA’s publications and to enhance in this way EIPA’s substantive contribution to the field of public administration.
Main tasks and responsibilities
The tasks during this internship will include, among others:
- Supporting SEC-related work, such as drafting editorial guidelines, organizing SEC meetings, designing and implementing SEC-related workflow systems, and assisting in the blog post/paper review and publication process with background research and editing work.
- Assisting with the development, coordination and delivery of a new EU administrative law training module and other existing trainings, contributing to the design and preparation of training programmes, presentations, case studies, supporting materials and readings, background research on conceptual matters and latest developments, liaising with external experts and participants, and facilitating promotion of training modules.
- Contributing to the development, coordination and delivery of an in-house training skills module for EIPA’s trainers and researchers by facilitating the design and preparation of the training programme, presentations, supporting background materials and readings, background research on conceptual matters, latest developments, coordination of activities and liaising with participants.
- Helping with liaising/approaching relevant external experts and participants to support programme delivery and networking.
Your profile
You can apply for this student internship if you have/are:
- Enrolled in, or have recently completed, a legal Master’s program, such as EU and/or International Law, ideally in combination with a more governance background (public administration, political science, international relations).
- Located in Maastricht or nearby as regular presence at the office is required.
- Excellent drafting, analytical, research and communication skills.
- A good familiarity with EU law, institutions and policy processes.
- Very good language and communication skills in English (C1/C2-native language). Fluency in Dutch, French and/or German is an advantage.
- Proactivity and constructive approach to challenges.
- Preferably the nationality of one of the EU Member States, of the candidate countries to the EU, or one of the EEA countries, Switzerland or the United Kingdom.

Internships at EIPA are not remunerated, but we offer a small allowance. The duration of the internship can vary from a minimum of four months up to six months.
