Second Edition of the MELS Spring School: Shaping the Future of European Legal Studies

News

We were pleased to have Master of European Legal Studies (MELS) students visit our Centre for Judges and Lawyers in Luxembourg, during the second edition of the MELS Spring School. Over the course of a few interesting and fun days, MELS students from all over Europe left their busy jobs behind to get together to discuss and debate a wide range of forward-thinking issues related to EU law and European affairs.

This year’s focus centered on the European border-free zone: its evolution, current challenges, and the EU’s legal and political responses. A highlight of the event was the study visit to Schengen, the symbolic village where the Schengen Agreement was signed in 1985. There, participants reflected on the significance of cross-border cooperation in today’s Europe.

Students also benefitted from the opportunity to attend thesis coaching workshops to help prepare them for their Master’s thesis which concludes the MELS second year and Master’s programme.

The Spring School provided the opportunity to connect with colleagues from various cohorts of the MELS community, and the chance to exchange thoughts and ideas in an informal setting.

Following our Spring School launch, we look forward to welcoming our ever-growing network of MELS alumni for future events at our premises in Luxembourg- to make connections, discuss and debate the important topics currently facing Europe.
