Václav Žďárek

Václav Žďárek, joined the European Investment Bank (EIB) group as an Economist in December 2023. He is currently working in the Economics Department within the Policy and Strategy Division of the EIB.
From 2018 to 2023, he held the position of Senior Economist at the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission in Brussels. During this period, he worked in both the monetary policy and euro adoption unit, as well as the international economy unit. Prior to this, he worked, among other roles, at the Department of Economics of the University of Warwick (2016–2018), served as an Economist at the fiscal policy unit of the European Central Bank (2014–2015), acted as an Economic Adviser to the Board of the Czech National Bank (2012–2014), and held the position of (Senior) Economist at the Centre for Economic Studies in Prague (2005–2011).

Václav holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Warwick and a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Economics in Prague. His research interests include macroeconomics, international economics, expectations, economic convergence, and cohesion issues.
