Context
Data from the 2021 census indicate that Nazaré has a significant elderly population (26.2% over 65). The ageing population presents both challenges and opportunities. While people experience physical and social changes, they also gain valuable knowledge and experience.
Today, ageing is often associated with a decline in activity and changes in family, work and social roles, which can lead to isolation. Social engagement is therefore essential for healthy ageing. With an increasing elderly population, preventive and intervention programmes are even more crucial to foster social integration, motivation and independence.
Objectives
This project of the Municipality of Nazaré fills the need and the void in the planning of activities for the elderly who are in their homes. It is based on the importance of adopting preventive measures to control and reduce the negative impact of losses that occur on the individual following the ageing process. Healthy and optimistic individuals adapt more easily to the changes that ageing brings, being more willing to accept old age as a stage of accumulated experiences and maturity, that is a time of greater knowledge; hence the importance of keeping them active in these areas.
The main objective of this project is the promotion of biopsychosocial well-being of the elderly population residing in the municipality of Nazaré who are isolated at home through the implementation of activities/dynamics adapted to each situation.
Implementation
The team will consist of a sociocultural animator and a psychologist, who will develop the activities together. They will draw up an individual work plan for each elderly person, taking into account their specificities, after a needs survey and diagnosis are carried out. The project includes several individual and group activities that have been designed taking into account the characteristics of the recipients of this intervention, both personally and psychologically. Each activity will have an appropriate duration and can be alternated between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on its typology at the level of dependence.
