Professional experience

Sébastien Thomas is a Senior Associate in the EU Financial & Competition Law practice of Arendt & Medernach. He specialises in EU and Luxembourg competition law, with a particular focus on EU State aid law.

Sébastien advises a wide range of both national and international public and private clients on EU and competition law and sectoral regulation.

Prior to joining Arendt, Sébastien worked for around 10 years as a legal secretary to various judges at the CJEU (General Court and Court of Justice). From 2010 to 2013, he was also a member of the Legal Service of the EU Commission (State aid team), representing the institution before the EU courts. In addition, he served as an academic assistant at the College of Europe in Bruges.

Sébastien is the author of a book on State aid law (in French) and regularly publishes articles and case-law analyses in this field.

Sébastien holds a Master’s degree in Law from the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium) and an LL.M. in International Law from the University of Groningen (Netherlands), as well as an LL.M. in European Law from the College of Europe (Belgium).
