Oliver Mader

Dr Oliver Mader M.A. (KCL) is an attorney-at-law, advising and representing clients before the European Court of Justice and domestic courts on a wide range of EU legal topics.
Oliver Mader has contributed to the application and development of EU law over 30 years of academic and professional practice. He has served at the European Commission, the European Court of Auditors, and the European Agency for Reconstruction. In these roles, he advised EU Institutions on EU external relations and cooperation with third countries, leading over 40 flagship EU projects in external cooperation worldwide. His work has focused on governance, EU integration, justice, institution-building, and infrastructure, in cooperation with public sector institutions.
Oliver has published widely and regularly speaks on various aspects of EU law and international relations. His academic work has received several international awards. His recent research includes fundamental rights and constitutional law, the internal market, remedies, procedural law, public procurement, regulatory affairs and external relations. Oliver Mader is the author of a leading commentary on EU Civil Service Law (Hart, London, 2024), focusing on EU Staff Regulations.
He holds a PhD from Passau University (summa cum laude, prize for best dissertation of the year), as well as the German judge & attorney qualification. In addition, he holds a diploma and a Master’s degree in EU law from King’s College London (dist., prize for best thesis of the year). He serves as a Member of the Council of the independent thinktank European Law Institute (ELI).
