Professional experience

Nadia is a legal professional with extensive experience in international family law, private international law, and judicial cooperation in cross-border cases. She serves as a lead lecturer in European and international private law at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands), where she teaches private international law, international and European family law, and children’s rights.

As an attorney-at-law and a member of the Sofia Bar Association since 2003, Nadia has practiced in both Bulgaria and the Netherlands, specialising in cross-border family law, including the practical application of EU regulations and Hague Conventions in international family disputes.

Nadia is also an international consultant and experienced judicial trainer, working extensively with the judiciary and legal professionals on issues related to cross-border parental responsibility, recognition and enforcement of family law decisions, child rights, and international child abduction. She delivers advanced training programmes at both national and international level and contributes to judicial capacity-building initiatives. She is a frequent lecturer at the Academy of European Law (ERA), the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA), and the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN).

She works as a consultant and lead researcher for various Council of Europe projects, focusing on international family law and children’s rights, and was Bulgaria’s representative in the European Commission’s expert group on the recognition of parenthood between member states.

Her native language is Bulgarian, and she is fluent in English, Russian, and Dutch
