About this course
This toolkit module introduces the core concepts related to cybersecurity (cyberattacks, cyberthreats, cyber hygiene) and will help you make your organisations IT environment more secure.
The module examines the current cyberthreat landscape, the impact of human error on cybersecurity, and what is good cyber hygiene. It will guide you through the different types of IT/Cybersecurity policies and how to create one that you can tailor to your organisation. It will talk you through how to handle a cybersecurity incident, and the relevant policies you can create to help mitigate and minimise risks.
How will it help you?
On completion of this module you will:
- Gain the basic understandings on concepts like: cybersecurity, types of cyberattacks and cyberthreats, and cyber hygiene;
- Understand how human error and lack of awareness can contribute to poor cybersecurity;
- Understand how you can navigate the cybersecurity threat landscape;
- Learn how to use awareness trainings and effective IT/Cybersecurity policies to create a cyber-safe environment within your organisation;
- Learn important elements on how to manage a cybersecurity incident.
Target group
This is a basic, introductory module suitable for public administration officials at all levels and employees of organisations wishing to create, update or improve their cybersecurity policies. No prior technical knowledge of Cybersecurity topics is required.

This module is structured in five main sections, with small exercises contained within most sections:
- Cybersecurity Threat Landscape (32 min)
- Human Error: the Weakest Link? (15 min)
- Cyber Hygiene, Awareness Trainings & the Risks of Remote Working (16 min)
- Creating an IT/Cybersecurity Policy (19 min)
- Cybersecurity Incident Handling (15 min)
Total time for completion: approximately 100 minutes.
