Context
State Secretary Alexander Pröll’s broad-based ID Austria Servicetour initiative established a new standard for citizen services regarding e-government. The excellent and comprehensive advisory services on ID Austria and its use made digital identity accessible to everyone throughout Austria.
Bringing ID Austria directly to the people – the mission of the ID Austria Servicetour was to help citizens throughout Austria obtain and use their ID Austria, regardless of age, prior knowledge, or place of residence.
The focus is on the central functions of digital identity: secure login and qualified signing – simple, intuitive, and usable throughout Europe.
The ID Austria enables citizens to safely identify themselves online and thereby a wide range of e-government services. It is use is easy and convenient, and persons can register for a service using their ID Austria and verifying the login with their linked authentication factor, such as the ID Austria app.
Objectives
By the end of September 2025, the aim was to achieve 100 000 new ID Austria registrations as a joint Austria-wide priority measure. Due to high demand, the project was extended until December 2025.
Implementation
At each tour stop, citizens could register free of charge on site, receive personal advice from experts and obtain support with activation directly on their own smartphone. The entire process took just a few minutes – straightforward, secure, and convenient.
The tour stopped at a total of 119 locations throughout Austria – from railway stations, airports, and markets to selected company locations. In addition, 80 municipalities and 21 tax offices participated with additional campaign days. This meant that a total of 220 service appointments were available to citizens.
