Internship at EIPA with the EU Policy-Making Team
Maastricht

About EIPA

The European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) was created in 1981 on the occasion of the first European Council held in Maastricht and is supported by the EU Member States and the European Commission. Our core mission is to provide a mix of deep insights and practical knowledge about EU policies, to all professionals related to EU public affairs, with the key objective of further improving their skills and capabilities for effective management of the policies. In addition to the Maastricht-based headquarters, EIPA has a centre in Luxembourg: the European Centre for Judges and Lawyers (ECJL).

The position

Understanding how the EU works and how to participate effectively in its policies has become increasingly important for European public officials, but also ever more challenging. Administrations today operate in a multilevel setting that involves interaction among a host of different actors. They are confronted by a multiplicity of EU decision-making processes through the adoption of laws and other policy instruments that shape most aspects of Europeans’ lives. Hence, public officials and stakeholders need to master the growing range of new tools and approaches that are now being used in policy-making.

Our EU policy-making team is looking for an intern who is interested in applying the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies and gaining practical experience in this field.

Main tasks and responsibilities

The tasks during this internship will include:

  • Providing research assistance for the development of training materials including collection and processing of primary data
  • Conducting research, analysis, and preparing presentations and draft publications in EU policy making and public administration
  • Assisting project leaders in identifying and establishing connections with external speakers and trainers
  • Contributing to the implementation of the European Public Sector Award (EPSA)

You can apply for a student internship if you have/are:

  • enrolled in, or have recently completed, a Master’s program in European Studies, Political Science/Public Administration, EU Law, or a closely related discipline
  • thorough understanding of EU institutions and policy processes
  • strong quantitative and qualitative research skills
  • good writing skills and experience in drafting texts
  • language and communication skills in English (C1/C2-native language)
