EIPA Luxembourg, in collaboration with Swedish Environmental Protection Agency – Naturvårdsverket, has successfully completed the first edition of the online Environmental Academy for the Western Balkans in 2022.
The online Environmental Academy aimed to provide civil servants from Northern Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina with a comprehensive academic programme in the area of approximation of legislation and integration of the EU acquis in environmental protection.
The online courses were divided into three learning modules that covered the entirety of the EU acquis under Chapter 27 on Environment, including the process of accession negotiations. Furthermore, the program consisted of approximately 280 hours of academic teaching and the equivalent of 9.8 ECTS credits.
The Academy was a success for 32 participants who received their certificates after completing the entire programme, including the examination. A final event took place in Skopje on 8 and 9 March 2023, where the certificates were officially awarded to the participants. The ceremony was held during a reception at the residence of the Swedish Ambassador to Northern Macedonia and in the presence of the Minister for Environment of Northern Macedonia.
EIPA Luxembourg is proud to have played a critical role in the success of the Environmental Academy for the Western Balkans. The Institute remains committed to delivering top-quality academic programmes that support the efforts of the Western Balkan countries in achieving their goals in environmental protection and EU accession.
