Professional experience

Remco Hoekman is Director of the Mulier Institute and Professor of Sports Sociology and Sports Policy at Radboud University. He has a background as a sport club consultant and local sport manager and obtained his PhD on research into the relationship between sports policy, sports facilities and sports participation. As a sports sociologist, he contributes to the scientific knowledge about the relationship between sports policy and sports practice.

Remco has an extensive national and international publication list in policy-oriented and more fundamental research and is uniquely able to connect the worlds of science and policy on topics such as sports policy, sports facilities, sports participation, sports organisations and financial aspects of sports. Remco is internationally known as the founder and/or expert member of various international research networks and as co-editor of the scientific journal European Journal for Sport and Society (EJSS). He was also president of the European Association for Sociology of Sport (EASS).
