Professional experience

Dr Martin Ferry is Principal Research Fellow at the European Policing Research Centre at the University of Strathclyde. He specialises in regional economic development and urban policy, policy governance and administrative capacity. He has undertaken extensive research on the administration of national regional policy and Cohesion policy, involving EU-wide evaluations and studies carried out on behalf of the European Commission and comparative research projects conducted at the behest of Member States or as part of EPRC consortia projects. This includes contributions to a European Commission assessment on the use of Technical Assistance to support ESIF administrative capacity building. He leads EPRC research on sustainable urban development and EU-funded integrated territorial investments, producing a series of comparative outputs for the European Commission and the European Parliament. He is currently leading EPRC work for the Commission on the analysis of Cohesion policy-funded territorial delivery mechanisms and analysis of domestic territorial instruments carried out on behalf of the EU ESPON programme. He is coordinating DG REGIO analysis of territorial challenges across the EU27 as part of its Semester process. He has published a range of academic articles, book chapters and policy reports on these themes.
