Professional experience

Clare Moriarty is a Legal secretary to Judge Eugene Regan at the Court of Justice of the European Union. During her time in this role, Ms Moriarty has had the opportunity to work on a number of cases in the fields of Competition law and State aid.

Ms Moriarty began her professional career as an intern in Legal Service of the European Commission (Competition team). She was subsequently engaged as a legal researcher at the Irish Bar and also worked in the Competition Department of the Brussels office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton for·several years prior to joining the Irish Cabinet at the Court of Justice of the European Union as a Legal secretary (Référendaire) at the end of 2013. She initially served as Legal secretary to Judge Aindrias Ó Caoimh.

Over the years, Ms Moriarty has also given presentations to a wide variety of legal practitioners, academics and other visiting groups to the Court on EU Court procedures and practices, as well as on a range of substantive issues of EU law.

Ms Moriarty graduated with First Class Honours in Law and French (LL.B. Ling. Franc) from Trinity College Dublin, which included a year studying at the University of Poitiers, France. She subsequently obtained a Master’s degree (LL.M.) in European law from the College of Europe, Bruges, and completed the Barrister-at-Law degree at the Honorable Society of King’s Inns, Dublin, following which she was called to the Bar of Ireland.
