Professional experience

Professor Emeritus at the Centre for Sports, Health, and Civil Society at the University of Southern Denmark, Bjarne Ibsen holds qualifications in both political science and sport/physical education. For 40 years, his research has focused on both “physical movements” (movement habits, the organisation of sport and exercise, sports policy) and “social movements” (volunteering, associations, civil society, civil society policy, etc.). He led a European research project on “Social Inclusion and Volunteering in Sports Clubs in Europe,” conducting comparative analyses across 10 European countries. Additionally, he served as a member of Denmark’s most recent health prevention commission.
