Context
The ‘Route Acoge’ (Ruta Acoge) project is presented as a generational relief solution in the Administration of the Community of Castilla and León by allowing for more homogeneous and agile training of new recruits. This project responds to an urgent need to train numerous professionals to fill positions left vacant by a wave of retirements within the Community’s public service sector. The project adopts an online onboarding methodology based on the concept of a ‘learning trip’ to provide a digital approach to training, aiming to be a catalyst for digital transformation among newly hired public employees.
Objectives
The primary objective is to facilitate the onboarding of newly hired personnel in the Administration of the Community of Castilla and León. It seeks to adapt new hires to the organisation, their roles and the goals of public administration. Additionally, the project aims to convey a commitment to digitalisation, offer a friendly learning environment, and foster a sense of belonging and collaboration within the institution.
Implementation
The project is hosted on the School of Public Administration of Castilla and León (ECLAP) website and utilises ‘learning trips’ to create a personalised and meaningful learning experience. A virtual journey metaphor guides participants through the Community, allowing them to connect with its regions while learning key information. Storytelling, humour and gamification are incorporated. Storytelling associates regional monuments with relevant themes, while humour is used to promote relaxation and enjoyment. Gamification techniques, such as earning stamps and achieving badges, incentivise engagement and content mastery. This multifaceted approach combines various online teaching channels to form a comprehensive and innovative onboarding experience.
