Context
The Green Tech Summer Graz is an initiative driven by the City of Graz’s Economic Department. Recognising the potential of students as climate action agents, the programme fosters a unique environment for them to pursue entrepreneurial ventures in sustainability. Partnering with Green Tech Valley Cluster, Styrian Business Promotion Agency, Science Park Graz and Gründungsgarage, the programme offers financial backing and mentorship to cultivate the next generation of Green Tech leaders. This initiative aligns with the city’s commitment to economic development through fostering sustainable practices and innovation.
Objectives
The Green Tech Summer Graz offers a transformative summer experience for Austrian students. Students with promising climate-focused business ideas can apply for scholarships to replace traditional summer jobs or internships. A jury composed of representatives from the City of Graz and partnering organisations selects the most impactful proposals. The chosen students or teams spend three months immersed in workshops, coaching sessions and expert guidance. Topics covered range from business model development and marketing to intellectual property strategy and pitching techniques. This comprehensive programme equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to refine their initial ideas into practical and achievable business models.
Implementation
Green Tech Summer Graz goes beyond equipping participants with technical expertise. The programme fosters a supportive network that extends well beyond the summer months. Through workshops, coaching sessions and public events, students connect with experienced professionals, mentors and fellow participants. These connections offer invaluable support, potential collaborations and access to future mentorship. This network empowers graduates to navigate the Green Tech landscape and ensure their solutions have a lasting impact. By the end of the programme, students emerge not just as graduates, but as empowered individuals ready to tackle environmental challenges and contribute to a more sustainable future. They are the next generation of Green Tech leaders, equipped to translate their innovative ideas into tangible solutions for a greener tomorrow.
