e-FILIT

The project was implemented by our European Centre for Judges and Lawyers – EIPA Luxembourg,  in partnership with the Polish National School of Judiciary and Public Prosecution (KSSIP), the European Union of Judicial Officers (UEHJ), the Ecole de Formation des Barreaux (EFB), the Order of Solicitors and Enforcement Agents (OSAE), and the Uniunea Nationala a Barourilor din Romania (UNBR).

The two years project aims to strengthen the application of EU legislative instruments in civil, commercial, and family law. It emphasises the significance of digital tools, encourages dialogue among legal professionals from diverse backgrounds, and fosters cross-border cooperation in civil proceedings across Europe.

Project objective:

The project supports bailiffs, judicial officers, lawyers and judges in the development of their knowledge and the acquisition of new skills through:

  • 6 e-Learning modules on EU judicial cooperation instruments
  • 2 two-days presential tutorial on Legal English, including ICT vocabulary
  • 3 one-and-a half days online training of trainers’ seminars on recent developments regarding EU judicial cooperation instruments
  • 6 one-and-a half days presential inter-professional conferences
  • 1 half day final conference

e-FILIT Tutorials on Legal English terminology

As part of the project, we organised two two-day tutorials on English Legal Terminology on EU judicial cooperation in civil, commercial and family matters designed to be of practical use to bailiffs, judicial officers, lawyers and judges who had the opportunity to practise their writing skills in a variety of contexts, but also improve their vocabulary on Legal English in the context of cross-border cases.

e-FILIT Training of Trainers Seminars

As part of the project we organised three online train-the-trainer seminars focused on EU judicial cooperation in civil, commercial, and family matters, combining presentations on key EU legal instruments with practical exercises and group work. Participants also explored available EU digital tools and learned how to use online forms and platforms relevant to cross-border judicial procedures, including debt recovery, service of documents, evidence-taking, parental responsibility, child abduction, and maintenance cases.

e-FILIT Inter-professional Conferences

As part of the project we organised six inter-professional conferences focused on key EU judicial cooperation instruments in civil, commercial, and family matters, while examining recent case law developments at both EU and national level. Through expert discussions and exchanges of practice, participants explored topics such as jurisdiction, recognition and enforcement of judgments, cross-border debt recovery, service of documents, parental responsibility, child abduction, and maintenance claims. The conferences also promoted the use of online forms, videoconferencing facilities, and other digital tools supporting cross-border judicial cooperation.
