Research Officer Full-time
The European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) was created in 1981 on the occasion of the first European Council held in Maastricht and is supported by the EU Member States and the European Commission. Our core mission is to provide a mix of deep insights and practical knowledge about EU policies, to all professionals related to EU public affairs, with the key objective of further improving their skills and capabilities for effective management of the policies. In addition to the Maastricht-based headquarters, EIPA has a centre in Luxembourg: the European Centre for Judges and Lawyers (ECJL).
The position
You will provide support in the training and research activities in the area of Data Protection (Law) in particular:
- Research support for the preparation of (online) seminars and other projects
- Research, analysis and preparation of briefings in the related areas, in cooperation with project leaders
- Assisting in building case studies and learning exercises
- Other related tasks
Main tasks and responsibilities
You will provide support in the training and research activities in the area of Data Protection (Law) in particular:
- Research support for the preparation of (online) seminars and other projects

- Other related tasks
Your profile
To be successful in this role you need to have/be:
- A Master degree with a focus on Data Protection Law
- Ideally between 2 and 4 years of experience in the field of research and higher education (e.g. research assistant at university or equivalent position), governance of data protection standards (e.g. by having had a temporary position at EU level working on data or at national level working for a national data protection authority)
- Excellent familiarity with EU institutions and policy processes
- Very good language and communication skills in English and at least one additional EU language
- Very good computer skills, including knowledge of online education platform and familiarity with digital learning environments, e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle
- Excellent analytical and writing skills
- Additional experience as trainee at EU institutions and/or Permanent Representations, EU associations will be considered an asset
- Preferably the nationality of one of the EU Member States, of the candidate countries to the EU, or one of the EEA countries, Switzerland or the United Kingdom
