Suzanne Kingston
General Court of the European Union
Appointed Judge at the General Court of the Court of Justice of the European Union in January 2022, Suzanne Kingston was recently elected President of Chamber.
Born in Dublin, she studied law at Oxford University and later at Universiteit Leiden, where she obtained both a master’s degree and a doctorate in law. She is qualified as a Barrister in England and Ireland and has practised extensively at the Irish Bar, including as Senior Counsel.
Her professional path has combined practice, academia, and service within the European institutions. She began her career in private practice in Brussels, before working as legal secretary to Advocate General Leendert Geelhoed at the CJEU. In Ireland, she built a distinguished practice while also pursuing an academic career at University College Dublin, where she served as Senior Lecturer and later Professor of Law. She has also taught at Columbia University, Cambridge University, Universiteit Leiden, and Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, and is the author of numerous publications in EU law.
Beyond her judicial functions, Ms Kingston is Vice-President of the Irish Centre for European Law and a member of the editorial board of the Irish Jurist. Her academic and professional excellence have been recognised through honours including the European Research Council Award and the Irish Research Council’s “Champions of EU Research” award.
