Professional experience

Maeve Hamilton has worked in the Northern Ireland Civil Service for 30 years. She is currently employed by the Department for the Economy in Northern Ireland and has been involved in the delivery of EU Structural Funds for the past 15 years. In 2009 she was appointed as Head of the ERDF Managing Authority for the NI Competitiveness Programme (2007-2013) and subsequently assumed responsibility for the NI EU Programme for Growth and Jobs (2014-2020). In 2017, she also took on responsibility for the NI ESF Programme (2014-2020).

As Head of the MA, Maeve is involved on a day to day basis with all financial and performance management aspects of Programme delivery, including the management of Intermediate Bodies. As a fully qualified Internal Auditor (Institute of Internal Auditors UK) with professional qualifications in computer audit and in fraud investigation, Maeve has been instrumental in the establishment of robust governance and management verification arrangements for the NI Programmes. More recently, she has developed and introduced a number of SCOs for the NI ERDF and ESF Programmes that have been widely acknowledged as exemplars of best practice. As a result, Maeve has participated in a number of peer to peer missions at the request of the EC. Her evidence on experience in the implementation of SCOs given to the EGESIF committee has also played an important part in shaping the changes being made through the new omnibus regulation.
