Nick Thijs (BE) joined EIPA on 1 January 2007 as a Researcher in the Unit on European Public Management.
Nick Thijs obtained a Master's degree in political sciences, specialising in public administration and public management, from the University of Leuven (BE).
In 2001, he started working as a full-time researcher at the Public Management Institute (Instituut voor de Overheid) at the University of Leuven. In this position he carried out various tasks: first of all, he was responsible for the research on public-sector quality management, organisational development, and change management, which included applying for new funds and projects in these domains. Secondly, he was responsible for training and education in the field of public-sector quality management. He coordinated the Public Management Programme for Federal Civil Servants (a long-term training programme for high potentials) and was in charge of the training in public-sector quality management (the CAF and other techniques) for Belgian local, regional and federal governments. In this capacity, he also acted as a (process) consultant implementing quality management in public-sector organisations.
Finally, he is a member of the editorial board of the Flemish Journal of Public Management (Vlaams Tijdschrift voor Overheidsmanagement) and secretary of the Flemish Association for Public Administration (Vlaamse Vereniging voor Bestuur en Beleid).
