Edward Best is Head of Unit at the European Institute of Public Administration in Maastricht. He has a Doctorate from the University of Oxford, and has worked in the regional security programme of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
He specialises in European institutions and the political aspects of European integration, as well as comparative regionalism and the management of regional organisations.
He has been a consultant for the European Commission, the United Nations, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Helsinki Commission. He has co-edited three books on the EU - Rethinking the European Union: IGC 2000 and Beyond (EIPA, 2000) with Mark Gray and Alexander Stubb, From Luxembourg to Lisbon and Beyond: Making the Employment Strategy Work (EIPA, 2002) with Danielle Bossaert, and The Institutions of the Enlarged European Union (Edward Elgar, 2008) with Thomas Christiansen and Pierpaolo Settembri – and published numerous articles on the European Union and institutional arrangements for regional integration. He is currently working on a co-authored book on the EU after Lisbon, to be published by Oxford University Press.
