Professor; Head of Unit “European Decision-Making”
Edward Best is Head of Unit at the European Institute of Public Administration in Maastricht. He has a Doctorate from the University of Oxford, and has worked in the regional security programme of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
He specialises in European institutions and the political aspects of European integration, as well as comparative regionalism and the management of regional organisations.
He has been a consultant for the European Commission, the United Nations, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Helsinki Commission. He has co-edited three books on the EU - Rethinking the European Union: IGC 2000 and Beyond (EIPA, 2000) with Mark Gray and Alexander Stubb, From Luxembourg to Lisbon and Beyond: Making the Employment Strategy Work (EIPA, 2002) with Danielle Bossaert, and The Institutions of the Enlarged European Union (Edward Elgar, 2008) with Thomas Christiansen and Pierpaolo Settembri – and published numerous articles on the European Union and institutional arrangements for regional integration. He is currently working on a co-authored book on the EU after Lisbon, to be published by Oxford University Press.

Edward Best est chef d’unité à l’Institut européen d’administration publique de Maastricht. Titulaire d’un doctorat de l’Université d’Oxford, il a collaboré au programme de sécurité régionale de l’Institut international d’études stratégiques (IISS).
Ses domaines de spécialisation sont les institutions européennes et les aspects politiques de l’intégration européenne, ainsi que le régionalisme comparé et la gestion des organisations régionales.
Il a travaillé comme consultant auprès de la Commission européenne, des Nations unies, de la Banque interaméricaine de développement et de la Commission d’Helsinki. Il a coédité trois ouvrages consacrés à l’UE – Rethinking the European Union: IGC 2000 and Beyond (EIPA, 2000) avec Mark Gray et Alexander Stubb, From Luxembourg to Lisbon and Beyond: Making the Employment Strategy Work (EIPA, 2002) avec Danielle Bossaert, et The Institutions of the Enlarged European Union (Edward Elgar, 2008) avec Thomas Christiansen et Pierpaolo Settembri – et a publié de nombreux articles sur l’Union européenne et les accords institutionnels en matière d’intégration régionale. Il prépare actuellement, en collaboration avec d’autres auteurs, un livre sur l’Union européenne après Lisbonne, à paraître aux éditions Oxford University Press.
