Target group
The seminar is primarily aimed at public officials from national, regional and local authorities of the EU Member States and candidate countries; officials from EU institutions; professionals in the private sector; law enforcement officers; consultants; staff of NGOs, institutes and think tanks; and others working on European migration and integration policies.
Description
In light of the definition of the second phase of the EU Agenda for migrant integration, this seminar will examine what works for integration in the EU. While recognising that integration is primarily the role of the Member States, it will analyse the added value of EU policies and instruments in the design, planning and implementation of national, local and regional projects, programmes and initiatives. The seminar will focus mainly on the ‘European added value’, looking at what has been achieved so far and on the ways in which the EU is having an impact at the national level. In particular, it will assess two key tools through which the EU is promoting change at EU Member State level: the European Integration Fund (EIF) and the European modules for the integration of migrants. This will be assessed against the experiences of local and civil society actors who are implementing activities supportive of integration on a daily basis.
Learning methodology
This seminar will be based on a mixture of presentations, case studies and practical sessions. It will stimulate active participation as well as the sharing of experiences and dilemmas faced when implementing integration policies. Background documentation will also be provided in an online/e-Learning set up. Speakers will include CEPS staff, academics, practitioners, civil society representatives and officials from the EU institutions.
Objectives
This training will contribute to:
• acquiring knowledge of the state of affairs and future developments of the EU framework on integration;
• facilitating a comparative perspective of the policies developed across the EU Member States;
• promoting the exchange of experiences of and feedback from practitioners.
